In the return match, Mladost Zagreb was defeated at Banjica with a score of 3-0, in sets of 25:22, 25:18 and 25:23.
Red Star’s great performance, the holidays and a short break from their busy schedule allowed the boys to recharge their batteries and show why they deserve a place in the next stage of the Challenger Cup.
The match began with a showdown, with both teams making it clear that victory was the only acceptable result and the game was played point for point.
The first half of the first set was spent in lead changes and a seesaw of results, until at 14-14 our boys came out with great serves and did not allow the guests to get closer until the end of the first half of the game.
The start of the second set brought us a repeat of the first, with the teams fighting for every point and no one allowing the opponent to get away.
The suspense continued until halfway through the set when our boys, with great serves from Dej, once again created a series and an advantage that they only increased to 2-0 in sets.
In the third set, the guests started off much more seriously and it seemed that they were determined to turn the score around.
The guests increased their lead, again to 14. points, when a new series of Red Star starts, another unstoppable surge and Mladost’s advantage melts away.
Our boys turned things around at the very end of the set and convincingly earned a place in the round of 16 of the CEV Challenger Cup, where we will face one of the European giants, Allianz from Milan.
The most efficient player in the Red Star team was Alija Bekrić with 18 points, followed by Milan Krstić with 12, while Omar Ahmed Dejo and Andrej Rudić scored 11 points each.
A difficult task awaits Red Star in the round of 16, the first match will be played in two weeks at Banjica, while the return match is scheduled for a week later in Milan.
