Crvena Zvezda is the only volleyball club from this region that will have a representative in the men’s and women’s competition of European competitions.
Our boys, after a long break, as the champions of Serbia, will already play the qualifiers for the group stage of the Champions League in mid-September.
We are waiting for the winner of the preliminary tournament in which Jekabpils from Latvia, Omonia from Cyprus and Prometheus from Ukraine are participating.
In case we win, we cross with the better of the duel Selver Taltek from Estonia and Orion Stars from the Netherlands, while in the last round our boys’ opponents can be volleyball players from Budva, Mladost from Zagreb, Fino from Hungary or Hippo Tirol from Austria.
If Crvena Zvezda manages to win all qualifying matches, the group stage of the competition will continue in group C with the teams Allianz Milano from Italy, Aluron CMC Warta from Poland and Knack from Belgium.
The girls will participate in the CEV Cup again this year, last year the shades decided on the placement in the quarterfinals, but this year our girls will have a very difficult job in the sixteen finals.
Crvena Zvezda meets the Volero team from France, which finished in 5th place in the CEV Cup last season, so an extremely difficult double match is expected, especially considering that last season the French team kicked our girls out of further competition.
The head coach Milan Gršić knows the Voler team very well as he himself led it a few seasons ago, also an interesting fact is that the sports director of the French club is Jelena Lozančić, the daughter of Slobodan Lozančić who this year celebrated 50 years since winning the national championship title with Red Star.
We are expecting a busy autumn for our seniors, but we are sure that they will not disappoint and that they will achieve more than expected.
